With the pub looking its spanking best,
we thought it was the ideal time to
show you around. You’ll soon see that
the Hoste Arms really has a lot going
for it and then some.
Say hello
to…
For starters, the location is a belter. You’re no more than
a 10-minute drive from North Norfolk’s stunning coastline,
and you’re in a peachy position for exploring the unspoilt
landscapes and picturesque villages all around. It’s an absolute
beauty of a spot for hikers, bikers, and dog walkers.
Burnham Market itself is so good-looking, packed with history,
and well-served with smart, independent shops and eateries,
it’s earned the nickname ‘Chelsea-on-Sea’. And the Hoste Arms
昀椀ts right in. After all, it’s been the heart of the village – literally
sitting on the central green – since the 1650s. (Fun fact: It’s
believed that Admiral Nelson once laid his Lordly head here.)
From its humble inn origins, the pub has blossomed into a
proud, modern space with 47 gorgeous rooms, including eight
in the Georgian-era Vine House just across the road.
If you thought that was enough to get excited about, wait until
you hear about the pub’s unexpected amenities. They have
a small 昀椀tness space in the basement, and even the option
to book spa treatments tucked away in a cabin behind the pub,
where guests enjoy facials, soothing massages, and body scrubs.
And get this, there’s also a 20-seat cinema. Oh, yes. It has
showings daily, and moviegoers get complimentary popcorn
and soft drinks.
Upstairs from the cinema is the pub’s restaurant, in which you
can sample head chef Herbert’s delicious creations. His menus
boast the best local and seasonal ingredients, and, with the pub’s
ocean-adjacent location, you can guarantee your seafood will be
day-boat fresh.
If you’re in the market for marriage (see page 6), the pub has
a civil ceremony license, and it would be tough to 昀椀nd a more
perfect rural venue than the Garden Room, with its elegant,
conservatory-like vibes and secluded lawned courtyard.
The recent revamp has turned the obvious charms of the
Hoste Arms up to eleven. Reservations Manager Martin
couldn’t be more pleased with the result and looks forward
to welcoming you to stay at this got-it-all-going-on pub in this
charming corner of Norfolk.
Make a stay of it. Longer days are made
for making the most of things.
“Spring and summer in the Hoste Arms are all about ease,
atmosphere, and that holiday-without-effort feeling. Long, lazy
evenings, drinks that turn into dinner… that turn into ‘ just one more’
outside as the light hangs on forever. Outdoor spaces really come
into their own, and there’s no pressure to rush. You can wander out
for a walk, a browse around the shops, or head out to Norfolk’s
spectacular coast.”
Martin De Sousa, Reservations Manager
Sean Young
If you enjoyed our article on the Hoste Arms,
our pub with the most in Burnham Market,
you can now learn a little about its hard-working,
but happy-go-lucky, skipper, Sean.
Host of the Hoste Arms Sean was born in London and raised in
South Africa. He’s run numerous pubs over the years, including
our Wandsworth wonder, The Alma, and he was thrilled to take
a trip to the country and bring his skills to our Burnham Market
beauty. He says there’s something about the pub that speaks
to him, and he loves its glorious history. Since starting last year,
he’s been inspired to make it a really special place.
And he’s fallen head over heels with the village – the quirky shops
(including the UK’s largest ladies’ hat shop) and the super-supportive
locals. When he’s not keeping everything running like clockwork
at the pub, he loves to read, go dog walking on the nearby beach,
and cook up a storm for his friends.
Talking of food, Sean’s happiest when the kitchen is bursting
with amazing local produce. And he knows summer in this neck
of the woods is a thing to behold, with big, blue Norfolk skies
and beaches that stretch on forever. And, because there might be
the odd rainy day, he loves that the pub cinema is there to keep
his guests entertained and happy, whatever the weather.
