Warmly
embrace the
winter wedding
Yep, we know it feels odd to be talking
about winter, but big days need to be
planned way in advance. And when it
comes to picking a time of year, winter
is the new summer, we hear. Dark nights
and 昀椀relight are undeniably romantic.
It’s about getting cosy with friends
and family, and that’s precisely what
our pubs do best.
If a midwinter wedding inspires you, start to get excited about
the idea of cosy luxe and hygge vibes. Enjoy curating an experience
around warmth, intimacy, and feasts for the senses. You can
explore rich colours and sumptuous fabrics. Clothes-wise,
it’s long-sleeve gowns, velvet tuxedos, faux fur coats, wool shawls,
and cashmere wraps. You’re going to want a place with roaring
昀椀res, 昀氀ickering candlelight, and hanging lanterns. For your 昀氀oral
decorations, go for evergreen foliage, dried 昀氀owers, and berries.
Dining favourites are hearty platters and late-night comfort food,
like gourmet grilled cheese. For drinks, think whisk(e)y tastings,
winter cocktails, or a hot cocoa station. Feeling cosy yet?
The wedding stats also reveal that people are moving away
from old-fashioned formats in favour of more informal
celebrations that feel personal and re昀氀ect who you are.
All this points in one direction: the pub. And many of ours
have civil ceremony licenses and beautiful, spacious rooms for
the vows and the after-show party.
The County Arms in Wandsworth really comes alive in winter,
with its snug corners, dark wood, and 昀椀replaces. The hirable
spaces include The Belvedere Room and The Trinity Room,
and the Events Manager is your sort-it-all saviour. When the
last song has played and bedtime calls, neighbouring pubs with
lovely rooms for your guests include The Alma, Spread Eagle,
and Brewer’s Inn. And for a wrapped-up-from-head-to-toe
walk the next day, Wandsworth Common is waiting for you.
Over in Wimbledon Village, The Coach House at the
Dog & Fox is famed for hosting happy nuptials all year round.
Completely private and boasting a bar, this elegant space can
be tailored for select gatherings or all-bells-and-whistles
celebrations. It’s licensed for ceremonies, you can say your vows,
dine in style, and dance into the small hours, all under one roof.
The pub next door has 25 boutique bedrooms, including
a romantic bridal suite with a private terrace. And guests
only have to scamper downstairs to 昀椀nd a back-on-track
breakfast the morning after. Last but not least, to ensure
your day unfolds like a dream, a dedicated Events Manager
is your planning partner extraordinaire.
Riverstation in Bristol is your West Country wow-venue.
The Restaurant, with its stunning views over the harbour-side
(a dramatic scene in all weathers), is their 80-capacity venue
for ceremonies and wedding breakfasts. The Pontoon Bar
is a great break-out space in which to toast the newly-weds.
And for high-quality head resting, sister pub Hort’s Townhouse
has 19 boutiquey bedrooms to snuggle up in.
