Business & leisure
come together
Some people call it ‘Bleisure’ – the canny trend of stretching a planned work trip
into a purely personal, fun-time break. It’s genius, if you think about it. You’ve already
paid for the travel (or someone else has), so why not bolt on a couple of extra days
at your own expense and make a break of it? Suddenly, the prospect of going away
for that meeting got a little more enticing.
We’re not saying a business trip can’t be a blast in
its own right. Our pubs host great meetings and
team-building events all the time. It’s just that you’re
in a lovely room, in a lovely pub, in a lovely part
of the world, so when the work is over, you should
stow away the laptop and make the most of where
you are.
It doesn’t mean you have to go AWOL; you could
keep working while you’re away. After all, you’ve
got a comfy space with WiFi. And if you need
justi昀椀cation (or something to tell the boss), think
of it as supporting your work-life balance – which
it actually is. The positive bene昀椀t of the break will
mean you bounce back to work with a clear head
and a spring in your step.
Of course, we wouldn’t be mentioning all of this
unless we thought our pubs were tailor-made
for the perfect ‘bleisure’ stay. All our city-based
pubs are in locations that suit both business
and pleasure in equal measure.
or the Georgian Townhouse in Norwich.
The latter can accommodate everything from
small team meetings in their Snug all the way
up to sparkly awards dinners for 60 in the
Pembroke Room.
Take The Alma in Wandsworth, for example.
It has a terri昀椀c bookable meeting space
(the Old York Room), it’s minutes from central
London, and it’s a lively and leafy part of town
to explore and socialise in once the serious
graft is done. Much the same can be said for
the Brewer’s Inn (also in Wandsworth) or the
Dog & Fox in Wimbledon. For business-meetspleasure locations outside the Smoke, try the
Bear in Esher, Worplesdon Place in Guildford
The next time you’re organising a trip for business
purposes, remember to follow our winning
productivity-boosting strategy: 1. Be sure to
book it in one of our pubs, and 2. Treat yourself
to some cheeky extra days away.
