Spring & Summer
Sundays
You might’ve heard us singing the praises of Sundays before. Well, that’s because it’s hands
down our most looked-forward-to day of the week. Who doesn’t love a heart-warming
roast? But Sundays aren’t just about jugs of steaming gravy and snuggling up by the 昀椀re.
They’re fun-days any time of the year. So, come with us as we explore the joyful world
of spring and summer Sundays in the pub (and pub garden).
Sunday is the carefree and go-slow day. The eat-lots
and laugh-long day. The Monday’s-miles-away day.
And who’d argue that the pub is one of the best
places to spend it? Better still, in spring and summer,
you have the added prospect of good weather
to make your Sunday really shine. So, let’s take
a peep at some pubs where Sundays rock
in the sunnier seasons.
Sea-view Sundays
A third ‘S’ to add to a summer Sunday is ‘seaside’.
The Seagate in Appledore on the North Devon
coast is the go-to Sunday lunch spot for tourists
and local folk alike. And if you fancy your food
al fresco, book your table out front overlooking
the water. You’ll also be overlooking the Hocking’s
ice cream van parked across the road, which sells
the most delicious locally made stuff (vanilla 昀氀avour
only but probably the best vanilla ice cream you’ll
ever taste).
City-view Sundays
Surely, Sunday has to be the best beer garden
day of all. Gather friends, grab a table, get
a round of drinks in, and gas and gab till the
sun goes down… and then some. In the city,
we 昀椀nd our outside eating and drinking spaces
where we can, in gardens, terraces, and even
on rooftops. Teetering on the edge of the Thames,
The Ship in Wandsworth’s beer garden is a
go-to for South West Londoners, and ‘Ship
Sundays’ are a local institution. They start with
Bloody Marys, move on to ‘the mother of all
roasts’, and then roll into cocktails at sunset.
The Marquess of Anglesey is famed for serving
the best Sunday roast in Covent Garden. And the
best place to have it (come sun or rain) is on their
stunning rooftop terrace with its fancy retractable
roof. Once you’ve settled in, enjoying the food,
drinks, and views over London’s theatreland, you
really won’t want to budge.
